The Erasmus+ programme is one of the European Union’s leading initiatives, extending beyond the concept of temporary study abroad to form an integrated framework for academic and educational cooperation at various levels, both within and beyond Europe. It has become an active international network that supports academic mobility and enhances the quality of educational systems, offering significant opportunities to advance education in Iraq.
As part of Sawa University’s efforts to develop its scientific and academic relations with universities and research centres, and with the support of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the European Union Projects Unit (Erasmus+) was established within the Scholarships and Cultural Relations Department at the University Presidency. This was based on the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research – Directorate of Private University Education – Department of Establishment Affairs, Universities, Colleges and Private Institutes Division, under official letter No. (ت هـ أ/ س ج / 15549) dated 30/7/2025, and pursuant to University Order No. 3737 dated 21/9/2025. The unit aims to strengthen international academic cooperation and provide opportunities for scientific and training exchanges for students, academic staff and employees through the European Union’s Erasmus+ programmes, thereby contributing to the development of the educational process and fostering engagement with international universities. The importance of the Erasmus+ programme is not limited to academic aspects; it also contributes to developing participants’ personal and professional skills, including cultural openness and the ability to communicate and work in diverse international environments.
The programme also provides broad opportunities for cooperation and collaboration with European Union member states and neighbouring countries. Furthermore, it supports the integration of an international dimension into educational curricula, enhancing the value of educational institutions and promoting excellence among students, projects and educational systems.
