The Department of Public Law at the College of Law, Sawa University, held an academic seminar titled "National Sovereignty Day."
The seminar was presented by Lect. Dr. Younis Shuail Ajeel, with Asst. Lect. Ahmed Saad Luwaiti serving as the session chair and Asst. Lect. Huda Sabah Matroud as the session rapporteur.
The seminar aimed to shed light on the legal implications of the withdrawal of coalition forces from Iraq, its impact on the concept of internal sovereignty, and the future course of action for constitutional institutions.
It was concluded that, from a legal standpoint, Iraq has been a fully sovereign state since June 1, 2004, the date the first Iraqi interim government was formed, replacing the Iraqi Governing Council that had been in place following the 2003 occupation.
The seminar also highlighted the national historical significance of October 3rd, which marks the founding of the Iraqi state in 1932, coinciding with Iraq’s accession to the League of Nations during the era of the monarchy.
