In implementation of the curriculum prepared by the College of Education, the Department of Quranic Sciences and Islamic Education—in cooperation with the Student Activities Department and the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Division—held a scientific seminar titled (The Islamic Ruling on Drug Abusers and Dealers in Islamic Law) on Monday, December 9, 2024, featuring the participation of:
-
Associate Professor Dr. Muslim Shaker Jabr – Chair.
-
Lecturer Dr. Qutaiba Adnan Shaker – Speaker.
-
Assistant Lecturer Zainab Atheer Hamza – Rapporteur.
The speaker emphasized: ("Drug abuse conflicts with the objectives of Islamic Sharia (Maqasid al-Sharia) in preserving the five necessities: 'religion, life, lineage, intellect, and wealth.' One of the general rules in Islam is that whatever harms the body or the mind is prohibited. It has been proven through juristic rulings and supported by medical and scientific studies that narcotics are harmful and dangerous to both the individual and society; thus, abusers and dealers are considered waging war against Allah and His Messenger (PBUH) and spreading corruption on Earth, and the corruptor's punishment is death.")
He added: ("The most crucial treatment remains strengthening the religious deterrent by enhancing faith in the hearts of young men and women to eradicate the root of the problem rather than merely treating its harmful effects, in accordance with the saying, 'An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,' and based on the jurisprudence rule that 'preventing harm takes precedence over attaining benefit.'")
