In implementation of the curriculum prepared by our university presidency for Iraqi Anti-Drug Week, the Department of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technologies at the Technical Engineering College—in cooperation with the Departments of University Psychological Guidance and Student Activities—organized a scientific seminar titled "Social Impacts of Addiction to Drugs and Psychotropic Substances" at 12:00 PM on Monday, November 17, 2025. The seminar featured the participation of:
-
Lecturer Attallah Bani Hammoud – Chair
-
Lecturer Dr. Salih Mari Abdul-Ridha – Speaker
-
Assistant Lecturer Raghad Shihab Ahmed – Rapporteur
The seminar addressed the social impacts of addiction to drugs and psychotropic substances, emphasizing that the presence of a drug-addicted individual within a family often escalates the risk of abuse, whether physical or emotional. Substance abuse can trigger violent episodes, driving the addicted individual to behave aggressively toward family members, which ultimately leads to instances of domestic violence, emotional manipulation, and verbal and physical abuse.
