In implementation of the curriculum prepared by our university presidency for Iraqi Anti-Drug Week, the Department of Physics and Physical Therapy Technologies at the Technical Engineering College—in cooperation with the Departments of University Psychological Guidance and Student Activities—organized a scientific seminar titled "Addiction to Drugs and Psychotropic Substances and Its Impact on the University Environment" at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. The seminar featured the participation of:
-
Lecturer Attallah Bani Hammoud – Chair
-
Lecturer Dr. Ali Jawad Kazim – Speaker
-
Assistant Lecturer Sajjad Majid Jabbar – Rapporteur
The seminar addressed substance abuse and psychotropic addiction, along with its repercussions on the campus environment. It highlighted that drug use among university students is linked to numerous adverse outcomes, including declining academic performance, an increased likelihood of post-graduation unemployment, and a heightened risk of committing or suffering sexual assault. This demographic is associated with several risk factors for substance abuse, including attachment to Greek life culture, intense academic pressure, and peer pressure.
