In implementation of the curriculum prepared by the Dean's Office of the College of Health and Medical Technologies, the Department of Optics Technologies—in cooperation with the Departments of University Psychological Guidance and Student Activities—organized a scientific seminar titled "The Use of Botox in the Treatment of Ophthalmic Diseases" at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. The seminar featured the participation of:
-
Professor Hussain Mohammed Katea – Chair
-
Lecturer Dr. Mohammed Sajjad Hassan – Lecturer
-
Assistant Lecturer Zuhoor Thamer Abdul-Latif – Rapporteur
The seminar addressed the application of Botox as an effective treatment for various eye disorders, most notably strabismus (squint), blepharospasm, and involuntary twitching. It highlighted that Botox works by relaxing muscles through blocking the release of acetylcholine, thereby reducing spasms and improving eye movement. Furthermore, the seminar emphasized that the treatment is safe when administered under specialist supervision, with potential side effects remaining mild and temporary, such as eyelid drooping (ptosis) or dry eyes.
