A scientific seminar entitled “The Marriage Contract in Light of the Code of Sharia Rulings on Personal Status Matters According to the Ja'fari School of Jurisprudence” was held on the morning of Sunday, March 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
The session was chaired by Lect. Dr. Basim Hassan Khudr, while Lect. Dr. Younis Shuaiel Ajil served as the session rapporteur. The seminar was presented by Asst. Lecturer Kawthar Atiyah Lafloof.
The seminar began with an introduction highlighting the importance of the marriage contract as one of the most significant contracts in Islamic Sharia and law, given its religious and legal implications for family structure and social stability. It also shed light on the Code of Sharia Rulings on Personal Status Matters according to the Ja'fari school of jurisprudence as a jurisprudential framework governing the rulings, conditions, and consequences of marriage, reflecting scholarly interpretations aimed at regulating family relations in a manner that promotes justice and stability.
The seminar aimed to explain the jurisprudential and legal foundations underlying the marriage contract in light of the Code, clarify the principal conditions and essential elements required for the validity of the contract, and highlight practical aspects of certain related rulings. This contributes to enhancing legal and jurisprudential understanding among specialists and those interested in personal status matters.
The seminar concluded with several key findings, most notably the need to strengthen comparative studies between jurisprudential rulings and legal provisions related to personal status matters, as well as the importance of raising legal and religious awareness of the rulings governing marriage contracts. Such efforts play an important role in protecting the family and regulating family relationships on sound legal and religious foundations.
